HIV Virus Transmission
The routes of transmission for HIV-1 and HIV-2 are the same (via infected blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and/or breast milk); however, HIV-2 cases have mostly been limited to the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and other West African nations. Because of this, testing for HIV-2 is not usually recommended unless specific exposure to HIV-2 is suspected.
